Going out: outdoor lounge chairs for my (or your) garden or terrace.

My blog has moved! :) Here is the link to my new website.

Time to go out! And to choose new furniture for the outdoor space. For several years, we have been using a very compact and simple set of furniture from Granit, now it’s time for something new. Though our garden is quite spacious, the spot where the garden furniture is supposed to be placed is not so big. And we do not have a lot of parties in our garden, therefore we do not need a big outdoor dining table and dining chairs there, rather a smaller table and 4 comfortable lounge chairs around (or a table + outdoor bench + 2 outdoor chairs…). Found several options for myself (and they differ greatly not only in terms of design but in price too):

  1. HAY Crate Lounge Chair - chunky wooden outdoor lounge chair, available in different colors: pine, white, London fog, black, and iron red. At the moment available here, but almost everywhere else waiting times are up to 8 weeks, so here are some alternative places to check up on them: here, here, and here.

  2. KARUP Design Boogie foldable chair with wooden base and textile seat, available in many color combinations. But keep in mind that you can’t just leave them outdoors in the rain, etc. They are more for a covered patio or terrace or to take with you for a relaxed day at the beach. Also available here.

  3. FermLiving Desert Lounge Chair - I bet you’ve seen this one already a lot, my choice - in olive color with a “cashmere“ metal base or in “cashmere solid“.

  4. HAY Palissade Lounge Chair Low - metal chair, another very popular design - I love it, and particularly in this finish/color - ‘hot galvanized (in Germany - ‘verzinkt‘), though it’s almost twice more expensive than the same model in other colors.

  5. Skagerak Lilium Lounge Chair - usually I vote for the chairs with armrests for more comfort, but this chair looks so good that I couldn’t resist…. :))

  6. FDB Møbler M6 Garden Lounge Chair - timeless design to my mind, and great craftsmanship. I even don’t know what to add... Spotted here and here.

Almost all those lounge chairs have complementing tables/stools, and seat cushions from the same collections for a more sophisticated and streamlined look for your garden/outdoor set. Or you can for sure mix designs for a more playful look.

When choosing outdoor seating furniture, don’t forget to consider:

  1. Its size - if you’ll need to store it in the basement or somewhere else during the cold season;

  2. Weight - how often will you or your kids need to move it around?;

  3. Will it really serve your purpose? If you mostly use your garden or terrace for outdoor dining - then an outdoor dining table and chairs will serve better than an outdoor sofa with a low sofa table, right? And vice versa if you use your outdoor space for let’s say reading a book while lying on a comfortable lounger. Of course, you can have both, no questions asked ;)

  4. Shape, seat height - how do you usually prefer to sit, and what are your favorite poses? will this particular chair allow you to sit “your way”? I, for example, usually sit in all crazy poses, but not like “normal“ people, according to my mom ;)

  5. How easy it will be to care for this furniture?

In general, it’s always a nice idea to read the item descriptions carefully before buying.
